We have not yet been told anything specific about the sequence of events that occurred or anything to identify this malware. The only way that the KeePass database contents can be read is if the master password has been entered by the user and KeePass has been unlocked. Would you please advise me if you are aware of such an issue and what is the best way to prevent anyone else from falling victim to this malware. I am concerned about using the infected PC again, have not connected it to the Internet and an unsure about hot to get this issue resolved. My last contact with them asked me if I had contacted you here to inform you of this issue and possibly get help. I have been in tough with Zonealarm several times since this happened so that they might update their software to recognize and warn of this issue but they have not been much help up to this point. I use Zonealarm on my PC which did not pick up the false program. Fortunately I did not lose anything but went through a lot of stress and wasted time and effort. I quickly began updating all my personal information, passwords, log-ins, etc.
I then realized that someone had gained access to my Paypal account and password and it hit me that it must have been by means of the 'Keepass update'. However I had not tried to log into the site. A day or so later I had a text sent to my cell phone giving me a text from Paypal with a code to be used to log into the site. Last week I failed to realize that Keepass does not notify of updates by issuing pop-ups suddenly when the program was not running, and I clicked the update to install a supposed update.
